Darwin Day Birthday Gala                                                                                                              Hits : 859
Sunday, February 12, 2012, 02:00pm - 04:30pm
Location :  John Smith Hall, La Sierra Community Center, 5325 Engle Road, Carmichael

Chucky D., the Very ManAOF will have no member meeting on this day, so please do not go to the Sierra 2 Center -- instead, head straight for the La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael. There the Sacramento-area Community of Reason will join hands with other civic groups to bring you the Sacramento Darwin Day birthday gala.

This will be the Fifteenth Annual Sacramento Darwin Day, celebrating Mr. Darwin's 203rd birthday.  This year the celebration actually occurs on his b-day! How can you miss a party like this?

Darwin Day is an annual celebration of science, in honor of the life and work of the great Charles Darwin (b. 12 February 1809), sponsored worldwide by community and educational groups. To learn more of this wonderful event, please visit the International Darwin Day Foundation.

For the Sacramento event, doors will open at 2 o’clock; the main program begins at 2:30. Arrive early to find a good seat. Relax and enjoy our main speaker, Peter M. J. Hess, Ph.D., the brilliant Director of Religious Community Outreach at the National Center for Science Education, teacher of liberal studies at Saint Mary's College in Moraga, and co-author with Paul L. Allen of Catholicism and Science. There will be entertainment too, and of course, yummy birthday cake.

Ticket price: a mere $7.50 if purchased before Feb 9, 2011, $10.00 at the door, or for students with Student ID, $5.00. To purchase tickets or for more information, please click to the main event website, http://sacdarwinday.blogspot.com/.
